As part of our ongoing commitment to the next generation of musicians, engineers and producers, we are delighted to announce a new partnership with Avid to provide a brand new opportunity to fully understand the 7 plug-ins within our bestselling Elite bundle. The Sonnox Elite Plug-ins Fundamentals Course provides participants with a thorough and practical understanding of how the plug-ins can be used to solve universal real world audio problems.

The combination of Sonnox’s hallmark sonic transparency and simple interfaces enhance both the teaching and learning experience, leading to a meaningful qualification that helps participants stand out in a crowded and competitive marketplace. Since Sonnox plug-ins have been used to produce so much award-winning audio for music, film, broadcast and games releases, the course will significantly help students transition to the professional world.

Once the teacher training has been completed, SO110 can be quickly and easily included alongside existing Avid courses. Divided into 7 parts (corresponding to the 7 Plug-ins in the Elite bundle), the course is short, focused and cost-effective. Students are provided with full and clear illustrations with example practical sessions throughout followed by an online test.

Student course materials will be available through the Avid Store shortly. Please contact us at [email protected] for more details. Meanwhile, course leaders and teachers can commence their training now. To find out more please refer to our FAQs below.

For Music Education Institutions

Why should we adopt the SO110 course?

SO110 provides the first ever opportunity to teach and be certified in the use of non-Avid plug-ins. Sonnox products are used every day by some of the worlds most respected engineers, producers and artists. Adopt SO110 and stand out from competing institutions by offering an enhanced level of industry relevance.

Sonnox plug-ins are effective learning tools. The course is quick and easy to implement and placed in the context of real-world creative and technical problem solving.

Having a thorough grounding in how our plug-ins work is of real benefit when transitioning from student to audio professional, as they are industry-standard tools. Our many high profile users attest to this. They tell us that hallmark Sonnox clarity, fidelity and precision inspired their choice to use our products.

If your institution already offers Avid courses, you’ll be reassured to know that we've worked closely with Avid to ensure SO110 is formatted to be fully compatible with existing ALP workflows.

My institution is interested in adopting the course. How much does it cost?

Pricing is as follows:

  • Teacher Training – max $600 per person
    • 2 days of remotely supervised learning
  • Course fees - $50 per student
    • includes course documentation, access to ProTools exercise sessions and up to 2 attempts at each exam

I’d like my institution to adopt the course but it is not yet an ALP. What is the next step?

Please visit the Avid page Becoming a Partner.

My institution is already an ALP. How long does it take to adopt the course and what are the next steps?

Since it’s both cost-effective and short, the course can be included with little notice into your existing ALP offering. We estimate that the trainers’ course will take 2 full days. Please email Caroline Dempster at [email protected] to find out more.

What is it about Sonnox plug-ins that can support my teaching?

There are two characteristics of our products that we feel make compelling aids in the teaching of audio and music production.

Firstly, our GUIs provide clear visual representations of sometimes complex audio processes. What better way of communicating them than by connecting ears and eyes? The SuprEsser, for instance, features a generous graphical representation of the frequency spectrum targeted during de-essing and the effect that the process has on the input signal.

Secondly, a lot of plug-ins out there seek to emulate vintage analogue processes that deliver warmth, saturation and character. Namely distortion. We believe that sonic clarity, precision and lack of colour – all hallmark Sonnox characteristics – are more useful and less distracting when demonstrating a new concept.

For Students

What are the minimum requirements for taking the course?

Both lecturers and students must have first successfully completed the Avid PT-100 course.

Do I get a discount on Sonnox plug-ins if I take the course?

During your enrolment in SO110 you are eligible for a 50% discount on most of our products. Use this link to find out more about our Educational Pricing policy.

What is the format of the exam?

Each of the 7 modules has its own exam comprised of 50 questions. Circa 60 minutes are allotted to complete each exam.

Test questions are presented in a multiple-choice format, with results being shown immediately on completion of an exam.

What will I receive if I pass the exam?

If you pass the exam, you will be provided with the following;

  • An official certificate for printing or download to prove you are an Avid Certified User for Sonnox Elite
  • Downloadable logos, for use in your resume and for promoting your business

What happens if I take the exam and don’t pass?

Unless a candidate is banned from retaking the exams for reasons of fraud or rule violations, the following retake policy applies:

  • If a student does not pass an exam, the candidate may retake the exam once after 24 hours have passed
  • Additional exam attempts can be made at a cost of $25 each
  • Once a student has passed an exam, it may not be taken again for that version of the Sonnox product

How long is certification valid for?

While your Sonnox Elite Collection certification does not expire, it applies to the particular version of software that was current at the time you took the course. Therefore, you may find it beneficial to update your certification to the current version from time to time. Contact your local Avid Learning Partner for more information.
